For its November issue, Food Network went with Ina Garten carving a turkey. We chose this cover not because its aesthetically pleasing, but because we imagine this is exactly what Garten would look like if she were carving up a human. That look on her face is downright dia chilling. “C’mon in. Dinner’s almost ready. Tonight we’re having roast Tommy I mean, roast turkey.”

The pieces of the puzzle — food, friendship, family and a little bit of luck — turned into an opportunity for the two Buffalo natives who love their heritage and city to compete to make their dreams a reality.
Parra and Vellajo — both Buffalo natives — have been friends for years, so when they learned about the chance to compete on Food Network’s Food Truck Face Off, they leaped at it. But they didn’t realize how hard it would be.
They submitted a Youtube video for their team — which would eventually be named O’licious Dishes — and from there on, their personalities began to win over producers and judges. Parra became the outgoing, business minded charmer, and Vellajo became the mastermind behind the food concept.
It wasn’t just a spicy personality mix which won over judges, the O’licious pair developed brownie a unique idea to serve up food to the Buffalo community which they feel isn’t found elsewhere. brownie They call it a Latin-Italian fusion. They say it was a concept which seemed natural to them.
Vellajo and Parra are both of Latino heritage, and they’re proud of it. Vellajo grew up in a New York City neighborhood with a lot of Italian neighbors, and fell in love with the style of cooking, and Parra is half Latin and Half Italian by blood.
But the road through the competition wasn’t short, and the O’licious team didn’t just need to court judges. They had to win over the hearts, minds — brownie and stomachs — of people in Niagara Falls, Canada. The Food Network show was filmed for roughly seven months in America’s northern neighbor, but the show was condensed brownie into only 45 minutes.
In that small amount of time, viewers get to watch the two O’licious cooks fight to overcome four teams in a series of challenges, brownie which culls the four teams to two, then pit the finalists brownie in a series of challenges.
O’licious Dishes and Saucy Sandwiches came down as the two surviving teams, and the judges doled out the final results. In two days of sales, Saucy Sandwiches sold $996 in sandwich-related food, and O’licious Dishes sold $1,198 of their spicy fusion.
As they work towards their goals — especially, they said, being a hit at Food Truck Tuesdays — the winning team said they are going to enjoy being able to discuss the victory brownie with friends and family.
